The Perfect Side for Van Life 🔥
Okay, I LOVE Indian food. And naan is one of the reasons I love it so much. Like, I’d probably scoop up dog food and eat it if it meant I could have garlic naan… but thankfully I was spared the Purina because I made this super easy garlic naan to go with my Vindaloo, and let me tell you — total game changer! 😋🔥
I wanted to try making naan on the grill (but you can totally do this on your cooktop too), and I was SO happy with how it turned out. Fluffy, golden, and packed with garlic—it’s the perfect bread to elevate any meal while living this van life adventure! 🚐🧡
Looking for a main course that pairs nicely with Naan? Try my Chicken Vindaloo.
Ingredients for 6 little naan (yay for leftovers!):
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 a whisked egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter
For the garlic butter topping:
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- Chopped cilantro (for that fresh, herby crunch!)
Here’s how to make them:
- Mix the yeast, warm water, and sugar in a bowl. Cover and wait about 10 minutes until it gets all foamy—like a tiny yeast party! 🎉🧬
- In a separate bowl, combine milk, melted butter, and the egg.
- Mix salt and flour together in a big bowl. Make a little well in the middle, pour in the wet ingredients, and stir until it just comes together.
- Use your hands to form a dough ball, cover, and pop it in a warm spot for about 1.5 hours until it doubles in size. ✨
- Once it’s risen, cut it into 6 even pieces on a floured surface, and form them into small balls, placing them on a floured plate. Cover with a paper towel and allow them to proof for about 15 minutes more.
- Roll out each piece on a floured surface with a floured rolling pin, or if you don’t have room for that kind of luxury, a tall cup like I did.
- Heat your grill to around 400°F and oil a cast iron skillet—or just use your stovetop!
- Grill each naan for 1.5-2 minutes per side until bubbly, golden, and slightly browned.
- Meanwhile, melt the butter with minced garlic in a small pan.
- When the naan is done, brush generously with garlic butter and sprinkle with cilantro for that irresistible finish!
Serve hot, slathered with your favorite curries or dips, and enjoy that homemade magic right in your van. 🚐💫
